Halifax Day by Day
One of the most industrious and enterprising towns of northern England takes a break to greet the novelty of the movie camera.
Overview
Edwardian Halifax is a picture of bustling industry and enterprise in this mini portrait of the town, captured for the benefit of those who lived in it. The Dean Clough carpet factory employees seen here - just some of the thousands who worked on the ½ mile shop floor - would have later paid to catch a glimpse of themselves onscreen. Though timeworn and curtailed, these images still resonate across the years.
