Overview

A young Richard Whiteley interviews the esteemed fashion designer Hardy Amies in this absorbing analysis of 1970s fashion. Whiteley questions a laidback Amies on his personal wardrobe and outlook on fashion as an older man. Although the camera remains static throughout, the camaraderie between both men retains our interest for the course.

Hardy Amies was a dressmaker for Queen Elizabeth II from her coronation in 1952 until his retirement in 1989. Amies was also hired to design costumes for a number of notable films such as Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Richard Whiteley was a popular British television presenter and journalist. He is best known for presenting Channel 4’s Countdown for over twenty years.
