Epic of Joey
Free the Camberwell One! Joey the monkey makes the most of his 13 day escape bid in 1920s South London
Overview
Over 13 days Joey the monkey made a bid for freedom from his cage in a private Camberwell garden. His literal monkey business made him something of a local celebrity, and newsreel stories such as this one helped spread his fame. Though he was lured back to captivity by a local rat-catcher, his two further escape bids the following year show how poor a choice a monkey is for a pet.
