Wolverhampton's 'day to remember' is 24 May 1962 when enthusiastic crowds line the streets to greet Queen Elizabeth II.
The fascination with the royals is apparent when a crowd of 30,000 fill Molineux to see the Queen presenting new colours to a number of local territorial army regiments. Then she is off to Wolverhampton Grammar School for a tree planting before ending her day with a banquet at the civic hall. Flags are waved all day by the tireless crowd but most excited of all is a six year old girl who is first to meet the Queen clad in a brand new dress made by students from the local art college.
