Overview

A gentleman tells of the appeal of farming even on a winter's day. There have been protests by farmers because costs have risen beyond income. Investment in a dairy herd does not have immediate returns so outgoings are high. However a life on a farm is short compared to the longevity of a piece of farm land. Farms will continue to be passed from one generation to the next and it is important to care for the land.

Intensive farming methods potentially damage the land and a good farmer will look after the land for future generations. Livestock and dairy farmers adapt to provide better care for the animals through inoculations and improved diet. Farmers are dedicated to their way of life with many never having taken a holiday because they are not able to leave the farm unattended.
