Overview

Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s feature debut The Lure (2015) broke lots of conventions and produced one of the most distinctive contributions to Polish cinema in years. This second feature, which screened at Cannes 2018, focussed in a different way on female identity and continued her international success. Lead actress Gabriela Muskała also write the script for this unsettling psychological drama which begins as a woman emerges onto a busy railway platform, unaware of who she is. We feel her disorientation as she meets the family that ‘claims’ her but cannot connect. A strong visual style is emphasised by award winning cinematography from Jakub Kijowki (DoP on The Lure and Poland's first LGBT film Floating Skyscrapers - also on BFI Player).
