A young thief balances nocturnal thrills with caring for his chronically ill father, in this thrilling yet thoughtful crime drama.
Rob (Charley Palmer Rothwell) is a young adult with few prospects in a dead-end coastal town, juggling the highs of petty theft with the more mundane duties of caring for his chronically ill father (Tom Fisher). But when his best mate and partner in crime Leo (Thomas Turgoose) gets him involved in a bigger, riskier job, he becomes torn between these competing demands, until unexpected hope comes from Leo’s girlfriend Kasia (Morgane Polanski).
Expanding his award-winning 2015 short Jacked, London-based Dutch director Rene Pannevis shot Looted in just 17 days, yet this is a remarkably composed debut feature which draws fine performances from its trio of young leads. Much more than a youth-crime picture, Pannevis has crafted a thoughtful yet dramatic look at aspiration and stilted dreams in modern Britain. Looted was supported by the BFI with National Lottery funding through Film London’s Microwave Scheme to support filmmakers with their first feature.
