Muppets veteran Frank Oz utilised puppetry techniques to bring to life this adaptation of the cult sci-fi musical, itself based on the Roger Corman B-movie from 1962. Rick Moranis is the weedy flower-shop assistant who discovers a man-eating monster plant, while Steve Martin has a memorably demented cameo as the deranged dentist Orin Scrivello, DDS (Drop Dead Sadist). The good-humoured result makes for the most effective horror-comedy musical since Rocky Horror Picture Show.
