Ben Whishaw stars in an intimate portrait of two strangers brought together by the common language of grief.
Director: Hong Khaou
Overview
Ben Whishaw stars in this intimate portrait of two strangers brought together by tragedy. Reeling from the death of his lover Kai, Richard (Ben Whishaw) reaches out to Kai’s mother Junn (Crouching Tiger’s Cheng Pei Pei), a Chinese-Cambodian woman who has never assimilated in London. Despite Junn’s ignorance of her late son’s sexuality and a deep distrust of Richard, the pair forge an uneasy bond and shared understanding.
This delicate and tenderly played drama was produced under the auspices of the Microwave film scheme (supported by the BFI), and went on to win Best Cinematography at Sundance Film Festival before being selected as the opening film of BFI Flare 2014.
