Jeune & jolie
Francois Ozon’s sly and seductive account of teenage girl’s dalliance with high-class prostitution.
Drama 2013 93 mins
Director: François Ozon
Overview
French cinema’s modern master of meta-melodrama and bourgeois subversion presents this sly and seductive account of teenage girl’s dalliance with high-class prostitution. After losing her virginity during a brief holiday romance, Isabelle returns home and embarks on an unexpected journey of sexual self-discovery, eventually leading to her reinvention as a high-class prostitute.
Set over the course of four seasons, Ozon presents this exploration of adolescent sexuality in a surprisingly sober and thoughtful tone; his uncharacteristically unsensational approach perfectly complementing the youthful nonchalance of his main character. Debuting at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, Jeune et jolie won widespread acclaim from critics and formed one of a golden run of movies from Ozon that also includes In the House and The New Girlfriend.
