I Can't Think Straight
The story of an affair between a Palestinian woman and her British Indian friend, from the same team behind The World Unseen.
Director: Shamim Sarif
Overview
Tala (Lisa Ray) is a Palestinian woman living in London, making preparations for her arranged marriage, when she meets Leyla, a British Indian who similarly abides by the preordained expectations of her Muslim family.
The pair’s friendship blossoms into a full-blown romance during a weekend getaway, and from then on the challenge is working out how they can possibly follow through with their desires. The sister feature to Shamim Sarif and Hanan Kattan’s The World Unseen also stars the same lead actresses, Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth, but is notably frothier fare than the more serious earlier film. Adapted from Sarif’s novel of the same name, the story is also partly based on the writer-director’s own personal experiences.
