Wandering Round the Harbour
Albany Cine Club presents a day of shipping action at Shoreham Harbour - with coasters, sailboats and houseboats

Overview
This fascinating film from the Albany Cine Club shows shipping activity at Shoreham Harbour in the 1950s. We see a small sailboat enter the harbour to be dwarfed by a coastal cargo ship, the Lanarkbrook. After views of the harbour area we see another large coaster, the Elizabeth Lysaght, approach massive lock gates, which are opened for her. More gates open and the vessel glides to her berth in the dock. The film ends with a view of a residential house boat.
The Lanarkbrook, which can be seen in this film, was built in 1950 by Lewis John & Sons. She was lost near Le Havre on the 6th Janury 1955 after colliding with a French collier called the Artesien, while carrying a cargo of coal from Rouen to Poole. The subsequent Board of Inquiry, which was held in Paris, found in favour of the Lanarkbrook's Captain, Daniel McMillan, and the collision therefore was the fault of the master of the Artisien.
