Our Holidays 1932 - Tenby
The stuff of summer holidays: the sun, sea and sand of Tenby with yo-yos and rounders, tanning lotion and swimsuits, castles and cameras.
From the collection of:
Overview
What are seaside holidays for but to allow everyone to let their hair down a bit and play ball games in and out of the water, or enjoy a bit of leisurely sunbathing or reading or general lounging about, with perhaps the odd smoke or handstand for good measure. Yo-yos feature on this holiday taken by a group of people who have several cameras with them, and there are also shots of Manorbier and Carew Castles and traffic of all descriptions using Tenby’s Five Arches.
This film was bought by someone who found it, together with a small collection of other reels, in a junk shop and passed the lot on to The National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales in case they proved to be of interest. As with other home movie footage that has lost its connection to those featured, we can appreciate the images but the unanswered questions are tantalising: Who are or were the people featured? Did they come from far to Tenby? Had they particular links with Wales? Might someone viewing this film on the BFI Player have the answers?
