The Box is a major cultural and heritage attraction and archive, which opened in Plymouth’s city centre in September 2020. Its collection, formally the South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA), is the regional film archive for the South West of England, comprising the combined programme libraries of Westward Television and Television South West (TSW). It also includes a significant number of donated film collections dating back to the early 1890s.

Overview
Jane Russell shot to stardom when she appeared in The Outlaw (1943). The film was so controversial at the time it was banned only receiving an official release in 1950. Originally a photographic model she turned to acting and won a screen test competition launched by Hollywood filmmaker and director Howard Hughes. She starred in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) with Marilyn Monroe and made over 20 films and was equally at home on the stage.
In 1968 she married actor Roger Barrett and came to England on honeymoon. They met while in Chicago in a production of Here Today and married after two months. They planned to tour in a production of Hello Dolly! but Roger Barrett died suddenly after their return to America just few weeks after this film was taken. Jane Russell was also known for campaigning for children’s charities and a change to US adoption laws. She adopted three children with her first husband American Footballer Bob Waterfield. She went on to become the face of Playtex by advertising their bras in the 1970s.
