The Box is a major cultural and heritage attraction and archive, which opened in Plymouth’s city centre in September 2020. Its collection, formally the South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA), is the regional film archive for the South West of England, comprising the combined programme libraries of Westward Television and Television South West (TSW). It also includes a significant number of donated film collections dating back to the early 1890s.

Somerset County Cricket Club is preparing for the season ahead and plays in a match against Hampshire at the end of April at County Ground, Taunton. The team includes Chris Greetham, Terry Barwell, Bill Alley, Graham Atkinson, Hadyn Sully, Brian Roe and Ken Biddulph with Harold Stephenson as wicket-keeper and captain and Ken Palmer as bowler. Hampshire starts the season as the previous year’s County Championship winners.
After finishing bottom of the Championship for four seasons, in the late 1950s Somerset recruits new players and goes on to finish third in the County Championships in 1963 and 1966. Somerset has the leading run scorers in the Championship in 1960 with Peter Wight’s 2086 and in 1961 with Bill Alley’s 2532 and the all-rounder Ken Palmer takes the highest number of wickets, 121 in 1963. Somerset CCC was formed in 1875 and achieved first-class status in 1891. The County Ground at Taunton is the current home of the England women’s cricket team.
