Overview
1969 was a busy year for the Buckley family at 'Castell Gorfod', Llangynin, Carmarthenshire, with haymaking, potato-picking, a 90th birthday party for relative Winifed Gwyn Jeffreys (17 years a secretary to poet John Drinkwater) and Christmas complete with guests and poinsettias. Over in Llanelli, the Prince of Wales' investiture was celebrated with a grand reception at 'Parc Howard', hosted by the county's Lord Lieutenant, a director of Buckley's Brewery.
The Lord Lieutenant of Carmarthenshire, Colonel Charles Neville (a director of Buckley's Brewery) and his wife are hosting the Investiture celebrations at Llanelli Borough Council's 'Parc Howard' (once owned by a Buckley relative) and greet guests as they arrive. The band of the 4th Battalion, The Welch Regiment, accompanies proceedings from the bandstand. Haymaking in the heat forces W H Buckley to strip off his shirt, which enables him to lift a bale. His son, W Kemmis Buckley, the owner of a red jaguar, assists the local (Llanboidy) doctor, Dr Lewis-Phillips and his wife, Lilian, out of their car on their arrival at 'Castell Gorfod' for Christmas.
