After Many a Summer - the changing face of Tiger Bay
An area of terraced housing in Cardiff, condemned as a slum, is demolished and replaced with tower blocks. The traditional social arena – the street – is lost.

Overview
Terraced housing in Cardiff, considered unfit for human habitation by the council, is bull-dozed in favour of tower blocks, possibly regarded as a cheaper option than renovation. The new, high-rise flats have modern bathrooms – and television – but no-one can sit outside their front door and partake in the life of the community that, as its residents indicate, was so vibrantly and successfully multi-cultural.
This film was directed and produced by Harley Jones and Chris Bellinger. Harley worked as a film editor, from 1963-1966 on John Grierson’s weekly Scottish Television programme entitled 'This Wonderful World' (it was broadcast also on the ITV regions e.g. Televison Wales and West). He was also the first course leader (1966-82) of the Newport Film Unit, later Newport Film School, at Newport College of Art and Design. Chris Bellinger worked as a television editor and producer and became head of children’s entertainment at the BBC.
