Overview
This sponsored film looks into the farming industry and productivity throughout Norfolk, showing the work of several farmers in the county. Dick Braughton, farm manager for Lord Hastings, has a whopping 3,000 acre estate at Swanton Novers to look after. David Holland farms a 200 acre council holding near Litcham, producing both arable and dairy. William Brigham and his two brothers also farm both arable and dairy, covering 600 acres of land at Lyng.
Frederick Stanton and his brother farm at Snettisham. One of his farms, Park Farm, has been run as a tourist farm since 1986. 42 breeds of sheep are kept here, and deer brought over from his previous farm in Scotland. Chris Skinner farms 600 acres of sugar beet and cereals crops. Growing on the farmer’s land is a bluebell wood, planted in 1990, and named after the Notre Dame High School in Norwich. Pupils come to tend the wood in the springtime. Dick Broadsmith breeds cattle for beef. A work gang cuts cabbages at Kettlestone. At Martham, G.A. Bayley Ltd grow chrysanthemums. Near Bawburgh, Alan Barnard lets land to the Norfolk Show Committee to run as a golf course and driving range.
