Wimbledon Opens

A host of tennis stars take to the courts, including the USA's Big Bill Tilden and British hopes Betty Nuthall and Bunny Austin

The Topical Budget newsreel cameras are on hand to capture some of the stars in the opening rounds of the 1929 Wimbledon Tennis Championships. British hopeful Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Nuthall, so famous only her nickname is needed, entertain the capacity crowd with her powerful yet elegant style. ‘Big Bill’ Tilden, the American legend, shows he’s still got it, while unseeded British player ‘Bunny’ Austin displays the technique which took him all the way to the semi-final.
