The Box is a major cultural and heritage attraction and archive, which opened in Plymouth’s city centre in September 2020. Its collection, formally the South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA), is the regional film archive for the South West of England, comprising the combined programme libraries of Westward Television and Television South West (TSW). It also includes a significant number of donated film collections dating back to the early 1890s.

Yachtsman Ron Davies and his partner are saved by the RNLI at night and towed to shore when the yacht the Calcutta Princess gets into difficulties close to rocks off Dinas Head. Silver medals were awarded to Coxswain Anthony Warnock and Second Coxswain and Assistant Mechanic Trevor England for saving two crew and a dog. The thanks of the Institution inscribed on vellum were awarded to the other members of the lifeboat crew.
Padstow Lifeboat Station is based at Travoise Head, west of Padstow in Cornwall. The Tamar class lifeboat is a called the Spirit of Padstow. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) saves lives at sea around the coasts of the UK with lifeboat crews who are unpaid volunteers. RNLI lifeguards patrol over 200 beaches and are paid by local authorities. The Institution is founded in 1824 and receives a Royal Charter in 1860. The Institution also operates Flood Rescue Teams (FRT) with international crews who can be deployed to overseas emergencies at a moment’s notice.
