The Box is a major cultural and heritage attraction and archive, which opened in Plymouth’s city centre in September 2020. Its collection, formally the South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA), is the regional film archive for the South West of England, comprising the combined programme libraries of Westward Television and Television South West (TSW). It also includes a significant number of donated film collections dating back to the early 1890s.

Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Massey Henry Edgcumbe Lopes, 2nd Baron Roborough opens a new children’s adventure playground in Otterton near Budleigh Salterton as part of the legacy of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee of 1977. Adults watch on as the children enjoy the new playground and sports’ pitch.
Massey Henry Edgcumbe Lopes was the aide-de-camp to George Villiers the Governor-General of South Africa in 1936. He succeeded his father as Baron Roborough in 1938 and fought in World War One. He became the Lord Lieutenant of Devon on 16 July 1958 until 5 October 1978, the Lieutenancy being the link between the monarch and the County of Devon. It helps to promote Devon communities, culture, services, heritage, business and charitable success while drawing attention to challenges and problems in the County. It supports the three Services and the Reserve forces and cadets.
