Ullapool 1949
The essence of Ullapool - its wonderful nature and thriving fishing industry
Overview
This lovely amateur film of Ullapool should come with smellovision. The stark beauty of the mountains, fields and lochs captured in this colour footage gives an almost tangible sense of being out in the fresh air. Perhaps not so fresh at the busy harbour, though, as we get a truly fascinating insight into the fishing industry just after WWII. Vast quantities of fish, most likely herring, are unloaded from a fleet of fishing boats, before being gutted, cleaned and salted on the spot.
