Hunting, Shooting and Fishing in Mysore
Colonial life in southern India for the 5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards: hunting jackals, shooting crocodiles, catching mahseer. Beautiful coracles are seen in use.

Overview
Lt Col W H Buckley, of the Buckley's Brewery (Llanelli) family, spent the latter half of the 1920s in India with the 5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, a calvalry regiment. Stationed in Karnataka (previously Mysore) state, he had hounds shipped out to found the Bangalore Hunt Club which rode out after wild jackals. Karnataka also provided crocodiles for shooting and mahseer for the catching. Beautiful Indian coracles are seen in use, transporting the bagged trophies.
The huge fish seen – mahseer – can grow up to 9ft long and is regarded as India's “gold fish” for its colouring and perhaps also because it is the world's most-sought after game fish. It is now an endangered species, not least because of the destruction of its habitat and migration routes. A conservation programme, involving Tata Power, is underway to ensure its survival.
