Overview
Record of national events shot by Tegwyn Jones - teacher, scholar, writer, artist. Included are shots of the National Eisteddfods at Port Talbot, in 1966, and at Bala, in 1967, the latter including shots of Eluned Phillips, the second woman to win the Crown. There is also footage of protests in Cilmeri (at the Cilmeri Stone), Caernarfon and Aberystwyth in 1969 against the imposition on Wales of a prince from the House of Windsor.
Many well-known Welsh people are seen on this reel - details can be found in The National Screen and Sound Archive’s full catalogue record. The Cilmeri Stone commemorates Prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last Welsh Prince of Wales, killed in 1282. Waldo Williams, the poet, is seen with his hand on the stone. The Aberystwyth anti-investiture footage comprises a few shots of students – on hunger-strike – at an upstairs window of the Old College. Also included on this reel are opening shots of Aberystwyth and – to close – shots of people arriving for a Plaid Cymru conference on the town’s pier, c.1971, including Gwynfor Evans, Dafydd Wigley, Phil Williams and Rhianydd Morgan.
