On your marks, get set, go! Women athletes in training at Battersea Park, London.
Overview
On your marks, get set, go! On a cold, wintry day in Battersea Park, women athletes undergo a gruelling training session in preparation for international competition. The well-composed action shots see them energetically sprinting, javelin throwing and performing some spectacular long jumps.
It's likely that these women were in training for a rival competition, the Women's Olympic Games - later known as Women's World Games - given that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) refused to allow women to enter track and field events in the Olympic Games until 1928.
