Cracking birthday spreads and jubilant party games keep the kids busy in this family film of two birthday parties in Harrow in the 1950s.

Worth watching for the delicious post-rationing birthday teas of cakes, sausages rolls, biscuits and sandwiches, this film appears to show two different parties in Harrow. First we see Glynis’s, featuring much cake and an energetic game of blind man’s buff, followed by David’s, with an even finer spread of food, some stubborn crackers, party hats and games. Ends with shots of a budgerigar hopping around while an older relative works on a roll up.
