Overview

Royal Naval aircraft carrier HMS Invincible was the first of the invincible class light aircraft carriers built at Barrow-in-Furness by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering. Launched on 3 May 1977 HMS Invincible is seen in this film in exercises with a Sea King Helicopter and a Sea Harrier off the coast of Falmouth. HMS Invincible was decommissioned in 2010.

In 1982, HMS Invincible was about to be sold to the Australian Royal Navy but the Falklands War acted as a reprieve. The ship was deployed to the Falklands with HMS Hermes. HMS Invincible had the capability of carrying twelve Sea King helicopters. Invincible was sold for scrap to Turkey in 2011.
