Overview

Local dignitaries and the Mayor of Exeter have joined together to enjoy the spectacle of the Exeter Carnival. With a parade supporting various floats and vintage cars, there are also groups of Morris Dancers performing in the streets. Morris-dancing has been around since the 15th Century and is thought to have originated from the Italian Court. It became popular in Britain during the medieval period.

There are many forms of Morris dances depending on your geographical location, all have a different variant on costumes and props but the one remaining constant is all dancers wear bells on their shins!
