Overview
A snapshot of inner-city Salford during redevelopment. Women go shopping, and children play on wasteground where old terraces once stood. On the horizon, cranes, scaffolding and the white concrete walls of tower blocks mark the changing face of the area.
In the 1960s, the City of Salford undertook a huge programme of slum clearance, demolishing many streets of condemned terraces, and replacing them with new homes and tower blocks. Michael Goodger, from Salford University, shot many hours of film footage documenting the transformation of the area.
