Overview

A panoramic view from a high vantage point reveals that airy, modern homes and green spaces have replaced the dark, cramped terraced streets. People stroll in the sunshine, and a new era for the inner city begins. The film displays marks made in chinagraph pencil by the film's editor.

In the 1960s, the City of Salford undertook a huge programme of slum clearance, demolishing many streets of condemned terraces, and replacing them with new homes and tower blocks. Michael Goodger, from Salford University, shot many hours of film footage documenting the transformation of the area.
