Overview
Friday 9th August 1963: the sun is shining and the Queen and Prince Philip visit Butlin's Holiday Camp at Pwllheli where they are received by Mr Butlin and tour the camp in an open-top Land Rover. They visit the camp church and accept with smiles and waves the “heartfelt loyalty” of "subjects on holiday". It was a return visit for the Prince who had stayed at the camp, then a naval training centre, during the war. It opened as a holiday camp – with capacity for 5,000 - in 1947.
