Seen at the Zoo (Part 1)
Giant panda Lien Ho is the star attraction at London Zoo in Regent’s Park.
Overview
A zookeeper waddling behind a gang of penguins in his old-fashioned suit and overcoat is among the most charming sights in this brief wildlife documentary. But it’s bamboo-munching giant panda Lien Ho (also known as Unity) who steals the show. She’d arrived in Britain from China two years earlier, in 1946. Giant pandas, an endangered species, can now only be seen in the UK at Edinburgh Zoo.
Peak Productions specialised in educational films like these, with some specific to London. But perhaps their greatest claim to fame was for briefly employing a young Michael Caine in the 1950s.
