Overview
A motley parade in honour of May Day, or Labour Day, with children brandishing political banners and a float proclaiming: "workers of the world unite - you have nothing to lose but your chains". The annual workers' holiday is not to be confused with the springtime ritual involving maypoles, frilly frocks and flowers. The costumes sported here are rather more diverse, including clowns, gypsies, nurses, Japanese ladies and kilted Scotsmen.
Little is known about the filmmaker or where the event took place. Maybe you recognise the street scene - Hepworth's stores might be a clue?
