In the Derwent valley, overlooking the clamour of the historic cotton spinning town of Belper, lies the Convent of St Laurence where life is lived at a different pace.
A plainly shot instructional film showing the life of postulants, novices and nuns at the Convent of St Laurence in Belper. The Reverend Mother is our guide to the life of simple living, religious reflection and the promise to live in 'poverty, chastity and obedience to God'. An unchanging plain life of community work for women who choose to live 'apart from the world'.
The Convent of St Laurence was founded in Norwich in 1874. It moved to Field Lane in Belper under the control of the Diocese of Derby shortly afterwards.
