The Media Archive for Central England is the public screen archive for the East and West Midlands. An independent charity and company based at the University of Lincoln, MACE acquires, catalogues, preserves and makes widely available moving image materials that inform our understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of communities between the Lincolnshire coast and the Welsh border.

New Post and Mail Building
Ten years in the making and employing 1,500 people the new concrete, glass and steel tower for the Post and Mail newspapers is a landmark for the new forward looking Birmingham.

Overview
A grand new building for the Birmingham local newspapers the Post, Evening Mail and spin off publications such as the Sunday Mercury and Sports Argus. This factory for print journalism was opened in 1965 in a blaze of modernity. Colour newspapers were the thought for the future in this ATV news feature although the revolution in print journalism, which would see the foundry hot metal printing plates being consigned to history was not yet predicted.
The Post and Mail Building in Birmingham was designed by architect John Madin, who was also responsible for the controversially styled Birmingham Central Library. The building did not survive for the century predicted in this film as it was demolished after only forty years in 2005.
