Police Pay Issue

Should the police have the right to strike? Kathleen Newbold from North Luffenham in Rutland thinks so. Her husband Mick is the village bobby and his Ј41 pay packet says so too.

Village policeman Mick Newbold from North Luffenham is struggling to survive on his Ј41 a week take home pay but fighting his corner is his wife Kathleen who will be leading a demonstration in London of 'policemen's wives'. Kathleen and Mick talk to ATV Today reporter Bev Smith about the plight of the village police officer.

North Luffenham was officially in Leicestershire when this film was made. Rutland had ceased to exist in April 1974 and did not regain its county status until 1997.
