Overview
Join the affluent Reid family on a wintry holiday in the Swiss mountain town of St Moritz. Compete on the curling sheets against pipe smoking, plus-four-clad gentlemen and enjoy a post-match beer al fresco. Delight in a novelty ice skating show, complete with Native Americans, impressive stilted skaters, and a stumbling Bambi-esque panto horse! Fur laden sleighs await passengers in a beautiful setting, where this prominent Scottish family often relaxed.
This film forms part of the Reid Collection, a compilation of home movies following the Reid family. The films were shot by keen film enthusiast Andrew Reid, who owned Auchterarder House in Perthshire, where the collection was discovered in the late 1970s. Andrew’s brother, Sir Hugh Reid, who was Chairman and Managing Director of the North British Locomotive Company, appears in the film. In 1909 Sir Hugh championed the production of the first steam turbine electric locomotive. The Reid family regularly holidayed in St Moritz as they were keen ice skaters and curlers. Hugh Reid and his daughter, Maud, were both proficient skaters, with Maud winning a Gold Medal at the West of Scotland Skating Club in 1913.
