Opening of the New Lambeth Bridge
A newsreel record of the opening of the second Lambeth Bridge by King George V in July 1932.
Overview
Crowds gather to watch the royal procession, led by King George V, pass over the New Lambeth Bridge, captured in this newsreel item. After the first bridge had fallen into disrepair, the New - or perhaps it should be 'Newer' - Lambeth Bridge replaced it. The large obelisks at each end were put up especially for the opening and topped with pineapples, symbolising friendship and hospitality.
