Pilgrimage to Canterbury
Beautifully composed views of one of Britain's prettiest cities prove that, pilgrim or not, a visit to Canterbury is well worth the trip.
Overview
Just look at the opening shot of this film: up Mercery Lane to the cathedral's Christchurch Gate. Framed with a circular iris and enhanced with chiaroscuro lightning, it's doubtful that Canterbury has ever looked more historic, picturesque and welcoming, even to the weariest of pilgrims.
This postcard-style travel feature was originally tucked in the middle of stories about fencing and animal training in the popular 'Gaumont Mirror' cinemagazine. Sadly it survives incomplete.
