Old Lesbians

A homage to schoolteacher, activist and archivist Arden Eversmeyer who travelled across the USA to interview hundreds of older lesbians.

For 25 years, retired schoolteacher, activist and archivist Arden Eversmeyer journeyed from Houston across the country to record hundreds of oral “herstories” to give older lesbians a place to record and archive their stories – their triumphs and their struggles. She recorded her first interview in 1988, and the archive now includes over 800 stories.

Meghan McDonough's deeply moving documentary honours Arden’s legacy through the resilient, joyful, inspirational voices that she preserved. The film won Aesthetica/Audible's 2023 Listening Pitch and went on to be acquired by the Guardian.
