Two Prosecutors

12 rating

Inspired by the story of a gulag survivor, Sergei Loznitsa’s Palme d’Or nominee is an ice-cold portrayal of a bureaucratic horror.

It’s 1937 and Stalinism has reached its peak. Kornyev (Alexander Kuznetsov) an idealistic young prosecutor, is determined to seek justice for a persecuted prisoner and embarks on a heroic Kafka-like odyssey through a labyrinth of cells, corridors and government buildings, paranoia and unease building with every step.

Claustrophobic and austere, Loznitsa’s film is a devastating account of life under totalitarianism.
