G.B.H. Grievous Bodily Harm
A bouncer is enlisted to fight off a mob boss, in this barmy, shot-on-video cult actioner from famed Mancunian hardman Cliff Twemlow.
Director: David Kent-Watson
Overview
Superstar bouncer Steve Donovan is pulled back into the world of gang warfare when he accepts the role of door protector at an upmarket club in Manchester, with a whirlwind of violence soon ensuing.
Written by and starring the legendary Manchester bouncer-turned-entrepreneur Cliff Twemlow, G.B.H became a shot-on-video sensation in the early ‘80s, even finding itself caught up in the era’s ‘Video Nasties’ panic – almost entirely down to its lurid sleeve art as opposed to the content of the film itself. Clearly a long way from high art, David Kent-Watson’s film is (aside from some regrettable uses of homophobic language) a campy, outrageous action-trash treat , and an unusual example of the resourceful DIY filmmaking that flourished in Britain during the video decade. This presentation was sourced from an original VHS master and image quality reflects these inherent limitations.
