Overview
Abandoning her usual meticulous research, Cotillard discusses an alternative approach. Her role of Stéphanie demanded some level of the enigmatic, she explains. Director Jacques Audiard used this to aid what she calls 'the search for authenticity' in portraying a complex woman who suffers a deep tragedy. The actor also speculates why the film's central romance works.
