RW Paul’s tactic of lending a camera to Walter Beevor of the Scots Guards pays dividends in this Boer War footage.
Walter Beevor, otherwise notorious for his involvement in the early days of the X-ray, was equipped with a camera by RW Paul before setting off for South Africa. Paul’s Animatograph Works gained access to significant events by supplying military personnel. Here Beevor captures his regiment entering Bloemfontein in March 1900. Although arguably less aesthetically sophisticated than the films of WKL Dickson et.al. his footage has plenty of clarity and character.
