Wooden Walls of Old England

Hepworth's Wooden Walls of Old England was filmed in 1899 and features HMS Implacable - originally a French ship which survived the Battle of Trafalgar only to be captured by the British soon after. She had acted as a training ship for 40 years by the time this film was taken, moored at Devonport, off Plymouth Sound, and joined by walkways to HMS Lion, whose figurehead we can clearly see as we circumnavigate the ships.

Implacable's stern and figurehead are on display to this day at the National Maritime Museum.
