A soon-to-be-crowned King Edward VII waves off Prince George, en route to Australia
From the collection of Cecil Hepworth (though not necessarily filmed by him), this film shows the soon-to-be-crowned King Edward sending his son Prince George (the future George V) to Australia. Given the recent death of Queen Victoria, this lengthy journey was better suited to someone not imminently ascending to the throne.
The film is catalogued by the Warwick Trading Company, who promise "very fine portraits of these notabilities... the whole subject is full of interest". The film might not live up to its billing, but it is evidence of a growing ubiquity of cameras at almost every supposedly newsworthy event.
