Django
Sergio Corbucci’s iconic and hugely influential Western follows the titular coffin-dragging drifter as he becomes embroiled in a mortal feud.
Director: Sergio Corbucci
Overview
On foot and dragging a coffin behind him, a mysterious lone drifter calling himself Django (Franco Nero) arrives on the outskirts of a bleak, mud-drenched town located near the Mexico-US border. He saves the life of a prostitute, Maria (Loredana Nusciak) who is being abused, first by a group of Mexican bandits and then by a gang of racist, Ku Klux Klan-like radicals under the command of corrupt former Confederate soldier Major Jackson (Eduardo Fajardo). Before long Django is embroiled in a bitter feud between both factions that can only end in carnage.
Along with Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Sergio Corbucci's Django set the template for the 'Spaghetti Western', inspiring countless imitators and over 30 unofficial sequels. Quentin Tarantino also paid his own particular homage with Django Unchained in 2012.
