        Overview

Denby Dale has been associated with the making of giant pies since 1788. In this 1964 film, we join villagers for a celebratory day of pie-making and other festivities, to mark a year of four royal births. The huge pie – which was served out to the crowds after making a grand parade through the village – contained 3 tons of beef, 1½ tons of potatoes, ½ ton of gravy and seasoning; another ½ ton of flour and ¼ ton of lard was needed to prepare the 650 sq ft of crust.
