A display of proud patriotism in a Lancashire village.
From the collection of:
Overview
A century ago, May 24th - Empire Day - was a significant day in the calendar. A day for pride and patriotism, linking people across the vast British Empire, and the good folk of Whalley, a large village in Lancashire's Ribble Valley, certainly turn out in force in 1913. As the marchers cross the river Calder and proceed through the streets, we can see just what an important communal event this is.
