Peace comes to Rhigos Gardens
How best to celebrate the end of a world war?
From the collection of:
Overview
The war is over and the Rhigos Gardens community of Roath, Cardiff, comes out to play. A fancy dress parade and races in the street are held, customary celebrations on the home front to mark the end of the carnage. The film-maker's daughter, Vanda, wins the fancy dress competition; a competitor in the mens' sprint comes a cropper. No such celebrations would have been complete without cake so there must have been a victory tea which escaped the camera.
Shot by Chris Jenkins, proprietor of ‘Vanda's' hair salon in Charles Street (later relocated to Dumphries Place), Cardiff, and a stalwart member of Cardiff Amateur Cine Society. He was also a keen amateur astrologer and artist.
